Kith & Kin meaning Friends and Family was established in Townsville in 1981 by a group of parents who could not find the kind of support needed for their children with a disability.

The parents banded together and with community support, formed a voluntary minding group for children. These children had severe intellectual disabilities and struggled to access other services often due to the challenging nature of their disability. The brave parents and volunteers held cake stalls and fundraising events to fund small group activities and establish Kith and Kids as a support service. The name was later changed to Kith and Kin as these children grew into adults.

Kith & Kin have since evolved and innovated to become the diverse disability support service it is today, providing suitable and sustainable all abilities and better mental health support.
Kith & Kin offer a diverse range of opportunities for people with Psychiatric, Physical and Intellectual disabilities. We still hold closely the ideals and values of those brave parents that established Kith and Kin all those years ago.
